Betfair Sportsbook Review

Betfair is popular sportsbook and betting exchange site running since the year 2000. The site is available to players from other countries worldwide in more than 10 languages.

New players can take advantage of bonuses that are specific to them, such as a £25 welcome bonus. Existing and loyal customers will also see many bonuses available to them on a daily basis. Registered players can place bets on a wide range of sports. These range from soccer and American football to cultural and less well-known sporting events such as the Gaelic Games. Prior to large events such as Formula 1 and the Grand National, customers will find the site offers many promotions themed to that sporting event.

Completely unique in the Australian sports betting market due to their exchange betting system. They were the original creators of exchange style betting. This allows punters to back and lay unlike traditional bookies who only allow you to bet for a result. Unlike other bookies Betfair doesn’t take a position against your bet on sports, rather they take a 5% cut on all bets that you win. You can qualify for a discount on the 5% charge based on the amount you spend through them.

Odds Features

Betfair doesn’t offer bonus offers on a regular basis. They rely on having good odds via the exchange and taking a cut of each bet. There is a bonus for sign-up but almost no ongoing bonus. They would rather offer their discount system rather than having random bonuses.

Bonus Offers

The sportsbook section of Betfair doesn’t offer bonus offers on a regular basis however right now they are currently offering a $200 no lose bet for anybody who opens a new account with them.

Existing players can take advantage of the Betfair loyalty program. Each time you place a bet on a sporting event such as greyhounds you will be given points. These can then be claimed back as free bets.

New players can enter the code FTB125 when making initial deposits. You will automatically be rewarded with an extra £25, however, you need to be placing a minimum deposit of £25.

Range Of Markets

Betfair has a massive range of markets perhaps not as large as Sportsbet.com but they certainly cover all the recognized sports and events. They also have Financial bets that we have not seen at any other bookie in Oz.

Site Layout

The layout is very good. The site had a big update in 2011 and a few great navigation features were added. We value the “next 3 races” tab which loads the next 3 races by starting time. If you are a keen racing punter you will find that this saves you quite a bit of time. There is also a special links section which has the biggest/most popular events which is great for recreational punters who just want to bet on the stuff they are likely to watch. The site also manages to have good navigation between bet types and different markets of the same event which is a big feat considering the range.

Deposits & Withdraw

Customers can deposit, withdraw and place bets in a number of currencies which include Euro (EUR), Canadian Dollar (CAD), British Pound (GBP), Yuan (CNY) and American Dollars (USD).

Betfair allows transactions to and from your account to be made by PayPal, Western Union, Bank Wire Transfer, Visa, MasterCard, Solo and Moneybookers.

List countries where Mastercard withdrawals are accepted:
United Kingdom, Ireland, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey.

Service & Support

There is a great help page which has video lessons which can be used to figure out everything you need to know. Phone help is brilliant and they will take the time to explain every detail of the exchange system. Live help is not available so that becomes the only area they lose points for this section.

Bet-Types

Betfair has expanded to offer Tote betting and exotics but the main function of the site remains the exchange so it would be unfair to mark them down for having less bet types than the other bookies.

We recommend that you sign up to both Betfair and another standard bookie as a package rather than having to choose one over another. This will mean you can select the best odds at the time from the 2 agencies.

Mobile Apps: iOS, Android and Windows Mobile

The sportsbook app of Betfair is an easy to navigate app that has a number of great features. Available for Android and iOS users currently. On the homepage it gives you the option of the Sports or Racing sections on the site and once you click on these buttons it will bring you to the top market on Betfair at that time. It has the same functionality of being able to back and lay your bets as on the full site.

This is a must app for anybody who considers themselves a serious punter!
